At the Pigeon Cove Circle discussion, Mr. Lilya indicated that I was involved in the decision-making process that led to the State Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) stepping in to supersede Rockport Conservation Commission’s permitting and provided more stringent protections of the jurisdictional resource. I was appointed in October of 2023 and was not a member of the Commission during the timeframe he refers to.
Mr. Lilya also noted that ConComm should be aware that we need to cut down trees in order to allow for development, as if the Commission is somehow not permitting projects in order to protect trees. I respectfully request Mr. Lilja provide clarification on this, specifically, the DEP #s in cases he is citing, as I have no recollection of any permitting denied for this reason since I have been a Conservation Commissioner.
